Enter the Babin — exhibit and award update

Last week a new retrospective of the life and times of editorial cartoonist Rex Babin opened in Sacramento, CA. Focusing on Babin's state and local work, the California Museum launched "Drawing Caleeforneeya" with a special reception on Friday, August 17, on the late artist's birthday. Sactown Magazine has a look at the show, which runs through Oct. 14, 2018.

This past weekend also saw the deadline for the "Rex Babin Memorial Award for Excellence in Local Cartooning." The winner will be announced on Saturday, Sept. 22, during this year's AAEC convention in Sacramento. Entries were up this year, to 37 cartoonists, and the judges were impressed with the solid work across the board — so much so they will be showcasing each cartoonist who entered, 1-2 each day, until the announcement on Sept. 22.

Check back on the AAEC news feed here beginning tomorrow.
