The AAEC and Association of Canadian Cartoonists will be joining with the Cartoon Art Museum in San Franscisco for a 3-day celebration of editorial art and political cartoonists, October 5-8, 2023.

Clifford K. & James T. Berryman Award for Editorial Cartoons

Presented by:  National Press Foundation

Description: Honors work that exhibits power to influence public opinion, plus good drawing and striking effect.

Requirements: Open to editorial cartoonists of newspapers and magazines for work published between September 1, 2010 to September 1, 2011. Send 5 cartoons, brief bio and letter of support from an editor or supervisor.

Prize: $2,500 and an engraved crystal vase

The Herblock Prize

Presented by:  Herb Block Foundation

Description: For distinguished examples of editorial cartooning with themes of defending basic freedoms, combating all forms of discrimination and prejudice, and improving the condition of the poor and underprivileged

Requirements: Open to work published in 2010 in daily or weekly newspapers or magazines in the U.S. or its territories, including US editions of foreign publications. Submit no more than 20 or fewer than 10 copies. Include bio and photo.

Entry fee: waived

Prize: $15,000 and a sterling silver trophy designed by Tiffany & Co.

The Grambs Aronson Award for Cartooning With a Conscience

Presented by:  Hunter College Department of Film & Media Studies and an Awards Committee of cartoonists, graphic artists, journalists and media observers.

Description: Recognizes satiric graphic art that shows distinction in some combination of the following: creative mastery of artistic technique; coherent, compassionate social vision; inventive comic narrative; innocation in forms or media of cartooning. Open to editorial cartooning and graphic topical satire, including animation.

Requirements: Individuals should submit a portfolio with ten pieces maximum, plus a personal/professional statement (300 words maximum). Entries should have appeared in print or digital media during 2010.

Entry fee: $30 for staff, for-profit and syndicated artists; $15 non-profit publications and freelancers

The Pulitzer Prize

Description: Awarded for a distinguished cartoon or portfolio, characterized by originality, editorial effectiveness, quality of drawing and pictorial effect, in print or online or both.

Description: The awards honor outstanding cartoons on issues that reflect Robert Kennedy’s concerns including human rights, social justice and the power of individual action.

Requirements: For work published in the United States during 2010. Mail one DVD with a maximum of 15 cartoons. Tear sheets may be requested for finalists.

Requirements: Open to any undergraduate student cartoonist whose cartoons were published in print and/or online in 2010 by a college newspaper, publication or magazine in the United States or its territories. Student must be enrolled in same college for the 2010-2011 school year to be considered. Submit 12 to 20 copies of examples, plus a statement describing your cartooning goals.

Description: Honoring the best of student editorial cartoons.

Requirements: Open to student cartoonists currently enrolled in college for work published in 2010. Submit PDFs of three pages published in newspapers, magazines or online news sites (links okay in this case), showing the cartoons and publication dates.

Entry fee: $9 SPJ members, $18 non-members.
